Volta Region-based blogger and tourism promoter Gloria Nunana Afetor has been honoured with the Digital Tourism Icon of the Year Award by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) for her contribution to promoting tourism, culture and heritage in the region. The recognition comes after more than 10 years of dedicated work promoting tourist attractions, traditions and cultural heritage across the Volta Region. Over the years, Gloria has worked with various institutions, traditional leaders, tourism site owners and managers to discover, document and promote tourist destinations in the region. She has also collaborated with previous administrations of the Ghana Tourism Authority in efforts to identify and officially document some tourist attractions. According to Gloria, she was involved in promoting destinations including Tizor Waterfall and Bowiri Abohire Falls before they were officially entered into the records of the Ghana Tourism Authority. She described the award as a significant recognition of her long-term contribution to tourism promotion, stressing that it was based on merit rather than public voting. “It is not an award that’s voted for. It is one that is merited, and they honoured that merit,” she said. Gloria expressed appreciation to Madam Roberta Okine-Fumador, Acting Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Volta Region, and the entire GTA team for recognising her contribution. She also dedicated the award to her fellow nominees, Faustina Amenyo and Michael Suka, as well as other individuals and organisations working to promote tourism and the Volta Region. She further acknowledged the contribution of Discover Volta Tour, which she said had worked mostly behind the scenes to capture important moments throughout her tourism promotion journey. Gloria also expressed gratitude to her followers, fellow content creators, bloggers and the Creators/Bloggers Association of Volta & Oti for their continued support. The award marks a significant milestone in her decade-long journey of using digital content to showcase the tourism potential, culture and heritage of the Volta Region to audiences in Ghana and beyond.
